ArbMetaBlock 2023 with DLS researcher Pietro Ortolani

On 26 May 2023, the ArbMetaBlock 2023 will take place in Ghent. Organised by the university of Ghent, it centres around the topic: The future is now! Blockchain, Metaverse, Web3 and (what it really means for) arbitration.

The event will offer insightful panel dicussions and ample networking opportunities. Breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch and a reception at the end of the day are included.

In five panels, speakers will debate the impact of these technolgies on the fundamentals of arbitration and explore how arbitration practiioners and arbitration institutions have to adjust to stay relevant. DLS researcher Pietro Ortolani is amongst the invited speakers.The following topics will be discussed:

  • Blockchain: what is it and (why) should the arbitration community care?
  • Metaverse: what is it and (why) should the arbitration community care?
  • Bringing down the house: How a new architecture (may) affect the fundamentals of arbitration
  • A role and place for lawyers: Is the legal market prepared for this new dispute resolution constellation?
  • Arbitration institutions in an era of decentralized spaces: on the cutting edge (or falling off)?
